During the procedure, sound waves capture images of the organs being examined. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound exams do not expose pets to radiation. One of the many advantages of using pet ultrasound technology for diagnostic purposes is that it typically does not require anesthesia. However, there are exceptions to this rule. In cases where a pet is particularly anxious or unable to remain still for the duration of the procedure, mild sedation or anesthesia may be necessary.
