Cleaning their pet's teeth

Even among responsible pet parents who strive to do everything they can to ensure their pets’ health, dentistry is often overlooked. While they are well aware of how important dental care is for themselves and the other human members of their families, many people remain skeptical about the importance of cleaning their furry family members’ teeth. Many also simply do not grasp just how much of an impact poor dental hygiene can have on a dog or cat’s overall health.

If you are still on the fence about the importance of pet dentistry, consider these facts from the American Society of Veterinary Technicians:

70% of pets over the age of 3 suffer from dental disease.

85% of pets over the age of 5 suffer from periodontal disease.

Bacteria from the mouth can make its way into the bloodstream and cause heart, kidney, and liver disease.

Dental disease is the leading cause of premature death in pets.

At ABC Veterinary Clinic of Lewisville, we offer pet dentistry in Lewisville to help your beloved companion avoid these problems.

Pet Dentistry in ABC Veterinary Clinic of Lewisville

We typically recommend bringing your pet to us annually for dental care. For some pets, however, we recommend scheduling appointments twice per year. When you bring your dog or cat in for dental work, we will begin by conducting a thorough physical exam and doing pre-anesthetic blood testing.

Once your pet is placed under anesthesia, we will perform a complete oral exam and take digital x-rays. The teeth are cleaned and polished, and a fluoride rinse is used. In some cases, we may remove badly damaged teeth or perform other oral surgeries.

When your pet is awake and ready to head home, we will provide you with full aftercare instructions and go over our findings with you.

Bringing your dog or cat to us for pet dentistry in Lewisville is a huge step toward ensuring their long-term health. Please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
